Realism is about more than copying a photograph. Strong realism needs depth, contrast, proportion and a composition that works on a moving body. Our artists work in black & grey realism, colour realism and combinations with abstract or ornamental elements.
What makes realism hold up
Contrast is what keeps a realistic tattoo readable from a distance. Photographs contain detail the skin cannot store, so part of the work is deciding what to keep, what to strengthen and what to leave out.
Reference quality decides a lot. A sharp, well-lit photo gives far more usable information than a screenshot, and we will ask for the best version you have before we start drawing.
- Black & grey and colour realism
- Portraits, animals, objects and mixed compositions
- Multi-session planning for larger pieces
Sessions and planning
Most realism projects above hand size run over multiple sessions. We plan session length around your skin, your schedule and how the piece heals rather than pushing everything into one long day.
Consultations are free. Bring your references and we will tell you honestly what size the piece needs to be for the detail you want.
